SLCPD Investigating a Deadly Crash on 700 EastSALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are investigating a deadly on 700 East. This investigation started at 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, when SLC911 received a call about a traffic crash at 743 South 700 East. Based on the preliminary information, the driver of a car north on 700 East lost control and hit a parked car. The impact then pushed the parked car into a woman walking on the sidewalk. Paramedics arrived and confirmed the woman died on the scene. The name and age of the woman killed have not been confirmed at this time. The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation. The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene. This crash marks the 10th traffic-related death in Salt Lake City. The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection, and computer-aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
