SLCPD Investigating Stabbing, One Person Seriously InjuredSALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Airport Patrol Division are investigating a stabbing that seriously injured a 55-year-old man. The suspect’s identity is known to police, and officers are conducting follow up with detectives. Because there is no threat to the community, and to maintain officer safety, no additional information about the suspect is being released. This investigation started at 1:42 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, when officers assigned to the SLCPD’s Airport Patrol Division received information about a person with a weapon near 200 North 2200 West. As officers responded, they got additional information that the fight had turned physical and resulted in a stabbing. Officers performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on scene. Paramedics took the 55-year-old man to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Based on the preliminary investigation, this is an isolated incident. Both men are known to each other and had an ongoing conflict prior to the stabbing. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Airport Patrol Division encompasses multiple patrol squads and includes a full-time K9 Squad. The Airport Patrol Division provides law enforcement services at the Salt Lake City International Airport and the areas near the airport. Officers patrol the airport terminals, parking lots, and surrounding areas to deter criminal activity, respond to emergencies, and enforce laws. TSA-trained explosive detection K9 teams respond to suspicious items in addition to patrolling airport property. The Airport Patrol Division is responsible for helping to ensure the safety and security of passengers, airport personnel, and airport facilities at the largest airport in Utah. Detectives assigned to the Airport Patrol Division investigate crimes that occur on airport property, such as theft, vandalism, assault, and various crimes occurring in-flight and work closely with our federal law enforcement partners. They are also attached to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to keep us apprised of any emerging or imminent threats.
