SLCPD Investigating a Critical Injury Crash in Ballpark Neighborhood
SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are investigating a crash that critically injured a 22-year-old man. This investigation started at 7:45 pm Friday, October 25, 2024, when SLC911 received information about a crash near 1110 South State Street. Based on the preliminary investigation, a 62-year-old woman driving south on State Street hit the 22-year-old as he crossed the street. Detectives are working to determine whether the 22-year-old man was in a crosswalk or not. Detectives will review witness statements, review evidence, and look for any video that may have captured the exact position of everyone involved at the time of the crash. Firefighters with the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance took the man to a hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the car remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians. Traffic traveling south on State Street is being diverted to Main Street at Herbert Avenue. The detour is expected to remain in place for several hours.
+The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer-aided drawing programs. The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies. The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
