SLCPD Officers Arrest Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Construction Worker

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s (SLCPD) Liberty Patrol Division safely took a 29-year-old man into custody after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a construction worker.

This investigation started at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, when a community member called 9-1-1 and reported someone pointed a gun at him near 1440 South Main Street.

Based on the preliminary investigation, a construction worker saw a truck parked behind a construction site. When the construction worker went to investigate, he reportedly saw a man in the car drinking from a beer can.

It is alleged the suspect, later identified as Christian Gomez-Dominguez, pulled out a gun, racked it, and then pointed the gun at the construction worker through the window while sitting inside his pick-up.

No shots were fired, but the construction worker reported feeling threatened by the alleged actions.

Officers searched the area and found Gomez-Dominguez’s pick-up parked about a block away with him inside.

Officers safely took Gomez-Dominguez into custody.

During their investigation, officers recovered a handgun and firearm accessories, as well as an open beer can.

An officer with the SLCPD’s Motor Squad responded to conduct field sobriety tests.

Officers booked Gomez-Dominguez into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of being a category two restricted person in possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, impair driving, having an open container in a vehicle, and not having a valid driver’s license.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
