SLCPD Officers Disrupt Suspected Drug Trafficking Operation in Library Square

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s (SLCPD) Bike Squad continued a focused approach of addressing drug-related crime with the arrest of two people in connection with a suspected drug-trafficking operation in Library Square.

“We are taking a focused and aggressive approach to hold people accountable and remove illegal drugs from our streets,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown. “Our officers are working every day to disrupt these networks and protect our community.”

On February 6, 2025, officers with the SLCPD Bike Squad conducted an enforcement operation in Library Square to identify people suspected of being involved in illegal drug activity.

During the operation, officers developed probable cause to arrest 57-year-old Dwight Marsalis and 53-year-old Dorrine Olson.

After watching Olson and Marsalis, officers observed behavior that they believed to be consistent with illegal drug transactions. Based on those observations and further investigation, officers took Marsalis and Olson into custody.

Officers booked Marsalis, a repeat offender with prior drug distribution convictions, into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges that include felony distribution of a controlled substance.

Officers booked Olson into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges that include fraudulent manufacture and distribution of a controlled substance and felony obstruction of justice after attempting to conceal illegal drugs.

The SLCPD will continue its targeted enforcement operations throughout the to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent criminal activity from threatening public spaces.

Community members are encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling 801-799-3000 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
