SLCPD Arrest Man Involved in Hit-and-Run Crash in Ballpark NeighborhoodSALT LAKE CITY – Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) have safely arrested a 60-year-old man as part of a critical injury hit and run investigation that occurred in the Ballpark neighborhood. The suspect in this case is identified as Bobby Barker. Detectives booked Barker into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, on charges of felony hit and run, felony obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence, and a traffic-related offense. This investigation started at 6:27 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2025, when a Salt Lake City police officer, conducting proactive patrols in the Ballpark neighborhood, drove up on a traffic crash almost moments after it occurred at Cleveland Avenue and Main Street. Detectives developed probable cause that alleges Barker made an unlawful U-turn near Cleveland Avenue and Main Street, causing a collision with a motorcycle traveling north on Main Street operated by a 53-year-old man with an 18-year-old rider. The operator’s injuries were considered critical, requiring multiple surgeries while the passenger’s injuries were considered serious. No additional details on their injuries are available. Barker is accused of leaving the scene of the crash. As part of the investigation, detectives are reviewing multiple pieces of evidence, including video. Detectives, conducting follow up on this case, found Barker’s car – the car believed to be involved in this case – in the backyard of his registered address covered with tarps, tires, and ladders to allegedly hide his vehicle, according to court documents. On January 28, 2025, detectives obtained a court-authorized search warrant to seize Barker’s car. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
