SLCPD Officers Arrest Man Accused of Being in Possession of Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia at Taufer Park

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s (SLCPD) Central Patrol Division have safely arrested a 37-year-old man on drug-related charges following a drug and crime reduction effort at Taufer Park.

This investigation started at approximately 3:30 p.m. on February 14, 2025, when SLCPD officers received reports of a man using drugs on the playground at Taufer Park, located near 680 South 300 East.

When officers got to the park, they saw the suspect, later identified as DeQuan Medlock, holding suspected drug paraphernalia.

During their investigation, officers found suspected methamphetamine and a suspected M30 fentanyl pill in Medlock’s possession.

Officers booked Medlock into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

As part of Mayor Erin Mendenhall’s Public Safety Plan, the Salt Lake City Police Department continues to focus on helping to ensure public spaces, including parks, remain safe and free of illegal drug activity. Officers will continue maintaining targeted patrols in high-priority areas to prevent and address criminal activity.

Community members are strongly encouraged to call 9-1-1 to report suspicious behavior.

Recent calls for service have shown tips from alert community members have led to significant arrests and the removal of dangerous drugs from our city’s streets.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
