SLCPD Cancels AMBER Alert Following Updated Custodial Information

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is now canceling a previously issued AMBER Alert for a missing two-year-old boy.

During the initial investigation, SLCPD officers gathered enough information to meet the criteria for issuing an AMBER Alert.

Given the potential danger and information provided by family members, officers acted quickly to issue the alert for the welfare of both the child and mother.

Following the alert, SLCPD officers continued their investigation and conducted an extensive search for the child and his mother.

Throughout the investigation, and prior to the AMBER Alert being issued, officers made multiple attempts to contact the mother, including using technology to locate her cellphone, but were unsuccessful.

Around 2:53 a.m., on March 15, 2025, a caseworker contacted SLC911 and advised dispatchers the mother identified in the AMBER Alert is allowed to have custody of the child.

SLCPD officers immediately worked to confirm this information, which was later verified as correct.

SLCPD officers and the caseworker eventually spoke with the mother and confirmed she and her child are safe.

The decision to issue an AMBER Alert is taken very seriously.

During the initial investigation, officers did not have access to the updated custodial information and information from family members was incomplete or not accurately portrayed to officers.

Based on the facts available, SLCPD officers followed policy and procedures for a missing and possibly endangered child.

The SLCPD appreciates the community’s assistance. Without the widespread dissemination of the AMBER Alert, the new custodial information may not have come to light as quickly.

The SLCPD is now officially canceling the AMBER Alert.

Media outlets are asked to refrain from using the child’s photo.

No criminal charges are expected against the mother. The SLCPD will no longer release her name.

The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly activate the community to assist in the search for and safe recovery of a missing child. These alerts are broadcast through radio, TV, road signs, cellphones, and other data-enabled devices.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
