SLCPD Seeks Tips on 2022 Homicide, Releases Pictures of Suspect VehicleSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is asking for tips to help solve the 2022 homicide of Anetupou Niualiku. This investigation began approximately 9:22 a.m. on Sunday January 23, 2022, when SLC911 received information about a possible shooting near 130 South and 800 West. Officers quickly arrived and found Niualiku, 50, with a gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics provided immediate live-saving efforts, but Niualiku died on scene. During the investigation detectives identified a suspect car. The car is believed to be a 2011-2013 white Hyundai Sonata. Detectives have pictures of the car; however, the license plate cannot be seen. Pictures of the car from the day of the homicide are being released. Community members can play a vital role in helping to make sure there is justice by providing critical information to help detective solve these cases and bring closure to families impacted by crime. Even the smallest detail or tip can make a difference in holding those responsible accountable. By coming forward with information, community members are supporting victims and helping to make Salt Lake City safer. Anyone with information about the car or its occupants should contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000 and reference case 22-13510. A SLCPD Public Information Officer (PIO) will be available for interviews on this case until 5 p.m. on March 18, 2025.
