SLCPD Celebrates Graduation of 12 Officers from Salt Lake City Police Academy
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is proud to announce the graduation of 12 new police officers from the Salt Lake City Police Training Academy. These officers have successfully completed an intensive training program designed to prepare them for the challenges of law enforcement in Utah’s capital city. Over the last six months, these recruits completed hundreds of hours of training. The SLCPD academy covers many classroom topics, reality-based scenarios, defensive tactics, firearms training, crisis intervention, and emergency vehicle operations. These officers were continuously evaluated and tested to meet the highest standards of policing. In addition to earning the Special Functions Officer (SFO) certification and the Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certification from the Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), each graduate completed approximately 150 additional hours of specialized training tailored specifically to serving and protecting the residents of Salt Lake City. With their academy training now complete, these officers will enter the next phase of their training, working in the field alongside experienced Field Training Officers (FTOs) for the next 16 weeks. The FTO program is a hands-on experience that will further prepare the officers to serve with professionalism, integrity, and commitment to our community. The SLCPD remains committed to recruiting and training highly qualified officers who reflect the department’s core values of Character, Compassion, Commitment to the Community, Communication, and Courage. The 12 new officers will play a vital role in helping to ensure the safety and well-being of Salt Lake City’s residents and visitors. The Salt Lake City Police Department is authorized for 630 sworn officers. Currently, the department has 43 vacancies for sworn officers.
