SLCPD Investigating Deadly Crash in Liberty Wells NeighborhoodSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a deadly crash in the Liberty Wells neighborhood. This investigation started at 5:46 p.m. when SLC911 received reports of a crash involving a very young child near 350 East Wilson Avenue. At this point in the investigation, the child’s exact age is not being released. Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver was operating his SUV in a driveway when he hit the child. The crash critically injured the child. When officers arrived, life-saving efforts were already in progress. Salt Lake City firefighters and Gold Cross Ambulance continued providing advanced medical care. Paramedics took the child to the hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the child died. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. At this time, officers believe this was a low-speed crash. The driver, who is related to the injured child, remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers. The SLCPD’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and Crime Lab Unit are responding to lead the investigation. Wilson Avenue remains closed between 300 East and 400 East. The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while detectives process the scene. SLCPD social workers, trained in crisis response, responded to the scene to assist those impacted by this incident. A SLCPD chaplain also responded to the hospital to support the family. As part of a multi-jurisdictional task force, CAR detectives are specially trained in collision analysis, vehicle dynamics, speed calculations, and evidence collection. They carefully map crash scenes, analyze vehicle movement, and manage cases through to prosecution. Their work ensures accurate investigations and strong collaboration with regional law enforcement partners.
