SLCPD Investigating Crash in Downtown, 1 Person Killed
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a deadly crash that happened in downtown.
This investigation began just before 11:45 p.m. on May 29, 2025, when someone called 911 to report a crash near 500 South State Street.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 46-year-old man was crossing State Street north of the intersection, outside the crosswalk, when a northbound SUV hit him.
The SUV’s driver and three passengers stayed at the scene. Police also spoke with another driver who witnessed the crash.
Despite efforts to save him, the 46-year-old man died at the scene. His name is not being released until his family is notified.
The driver involved cooperated with officers. Detectives have not made any arrests or issued any citations.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the SUV had a green light to travel through the intersection.
Officers did not see any signs that the driver was impaired.
All road closures have been lifted.
