SLCPD Investigating Shooting During Downtown Demonstration 

 

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred during a downtown demonstration. 

This incident began at approximately 7:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, when officers heard gunshots near 151 South State Street. 

Officers responded to the scene and found one person with a critical gunshot wound. Those injuries are considered life-threatening.  

Preliminarily, the SLCPD believes the shooting involved four people.  

With information provided by witnesses, SLCPD officers pursued one of the involved parties and took him into custody near 200 East 100 South.  

Paramedics took that person to the hospital, where he remains under police watch with serious injuries resulting from a gunshot wound.  

At this time, there are no known outstanding individual associated with the incident.  

There are also no known threats to the community.  

Preliminary estimates indicate that approximately 10,000 people participated in the planned, permitted march. 

The motive for the shooting and the events leading up to it remain under investigation. 

Immediately after the incident, multiple agencies – including the Utah Highway Patrol and Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office – responded and provided critical assistance. 

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) will be extending its service to safely allow community members to leave the scene.
