SLCPD Investigating Deadly Auto Bicyclist Crash in Downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a fatal auto-bicyclist crash in downtown Salt Lake City.

This investigation began at approximately 7:29 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, when SLC911 received multiple calls about a man hit by a car at 500 South 300 West.

Officers from the SLCPD Central Patrol Division, Salt Lake City Fire, and Gold Cross responded and treated 59-year-old Scott Hunt who sustained critical life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics took Hunt to a local hospital. He died several hours later.

Preliminary information suggests a car was driving westbound on 500 South when it struck Hunt while he was crossing the roadway on a bicycle near 300 West. The specific cause and circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

The driver of the car remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.
