25% of reported burglaries due to unsecured homes
May 28, 2013 — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Community Intelligence Unit will conduct a burglary prevention operation tomorrow in District 5, a part of the city that has been experiencing a spike in residential burglaries.
CIU detectives report that house doors, garages, cars and property were left unlocked, open or unsecured in 25 percent of burglary and theft cases recently reported in the Liberty Park area. Officers will walk District 5 neighborhoods tomorrow — weather permitting — to offer burglary prevention tips and to educate the public on easy ways to report suspicious activity.
Media outlets interested in covering the operation are invited to meet at the Public Safety Building at 9:30 a.m.
