SLCPD Detectives Arrest Suspect in Aaron Lowe Murder

SALT LAKE CITY — Early Sunday morning, Salt Lake City Police Detectives assigned to the Homicide Squad booked 22-year-old Buk M. Buk (pronounced “Book”) into the Salt Lake County Jail for the alleged murder of 21-year-old Aaron Lowe.

Buk is charged with Aggravated Murder, Attempted Murder and Felony Discharge of a Firearm.

Members of the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Gang Unit, Bike Squad and other detectives within the SLCPD Investigations Division, assisted the Utah Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team (VFAST) and located Buk in Draper, Utah early Sunday and transported him to the Public Safety Building for questioning.

During this week-long investigation, SLCPD detectives, the SLCPD Gang Unit, the SLCPD Bike Squad and the SLCPD SWAT executed search warrants in Layton and Draper, Utah and conducted more than two dozen interviews. Although this case received significant media attention, it is an example of the tremendous work SLCPD homicide detectives put into every case.

Buk is accused of shooting and killing Aaron Lowe on Sunday September 26, 2021 at a residence in the 2200-block of South Broadmoor Street. Buk is also accused of shooting and wounding a 20-year-old woman who underwent extensive surgery. She remains in critical condition.

SLCPD Chief Mike Brown released the following statement:

“In a time of need, we turned to our community. We asked people to come forward and to share the information they had. Because of those tips and the unrelenting pursuit of justice from our homicide detectives, we have arrested the person accused of murdering Aaron Lowe. So many lives have been impacted from this senseless shooting. I want to thank the work of our patrol officers, detectives, crime lab technicians, our data analysts, and the professional staff of the Salt Lake City Police Department. Their dedicated work of combing through every lead and every piece of evidence is what led us to this arrest.”

In addition to the Salt Lake City Police Department assets involved in this investigation, the SLCPD acknowledges the Layton Police Department, the Draper Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Metro Gangs Unit and the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance on this case and appreciates the assistance and cooperation from the University of Utah throughout this investigation.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
