SLCPD Asking Community Members to Prepare for Salt Lake City Marathon Road Closures

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is reminding community members about extensive street closures planned for Saturday, April 26, 2025, due to the Salt Lake City Marathon and associated events.

More than 200 intersections throughout Salt Lake City will be temporarily closed at various times to ensure the safety of race participants, volunteers, and spectators.

Closures will begin as early as 12 a.m. on some downtown streets and will continue throughout the day, with the final roads reopening by 5 p.m.

Most closures, however, will start around 5 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.

Key affected areas include downtown, Federal Heights, the University of Utah campus, Sugar House, and Holladay.

Motorists should expect significant delays.

Although the SLCPD works closely with event organizers to lessen any impact on our community, we expect that there will be disruptions to normal traffic, including access to homes and businesses along the race route.

To help ensure participant and spectator safety, some streets must be fully closed, while others will have limited or one-way access.

The SLCPD strongly encourages residents, business owners, and visitors to plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, and seek out alternate routes where possible.

Parking restrictions will be enforced along the course, and towing will be in effect in no-parking zones.

SLCPD officers will allow traffic to cross the route at major intersections, as crowds allow. Emergency vehicles will still be given access as needed.

Hospital access will be accommodated.

Drivers should follow the direction of officers.

Hosting a safe and successful marathon requires months of detailed planning and close coordination between law enforcement, emergency services, city departments, race organizers, and volunteers.

The SLCPD has developed a comprehensive safety plan that prioritizes both runner and spectator safety.

Officers will be strategically positioned throughout the course to direct traffic, respond to emergencies, and help as needed.

Runners and spectators are reminded to stay aware of their surroundings, follow all posted signs and instructions from public safety personnel, and report anything suspicious to an officer or race official.

The SLCPD appreciates our community’s patience and cooperation in making this a safe and successful event.
