SLCPD Bike Officers Seize More Than Six Pounds of Meth

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is announcing the seizure of approximately 6.5 pounds of methamphetamine and more than $6,200 in suspected drug money following an investigation conducted by the SLCPD Bike Squad.

“This case is a great example of what our officers can achieve when they build strong partnerships and have strong interagency cooperation,” said SLCPD Chief Brian Redd. “We will never stop going after drug traffickers in our city. We will use the full weight of the criminal justice system to hold them accountable. Disrupting a suspected methamphetamine supply chain like this is a major win for our officers and the city. I’m proud of the work by our officers and I am very appreciative for the support we received both in-state and out-of-state on this case.”

This investigation started around 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, when the SLCPD Pioneer Bike Squad received information about possible drug activity.

Acting on that information, officers found the suspect near 2100 South Redwood Road.

Officers saw what appeared to be a drug transaction, based on their training and experience. The suspected buyer was stopped and, with help from the Cottonwood Heights Police Department’s K-9 team, officers discovered approximately 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, officers identified a nearby hotel as being connected to the suspect.

The SLCPD’s Central Bike Squad, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) responded to assist.

Officers obtained a court-authorized search warrant and recovered an additional 4.3 pounds of methamphetamine and $6,258 in cash.

This case remains under investigation. Charges will be screened by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information about drug activity is encouraged to contact the SLCPD non-emergency line at 801-799-3000 or submit a tip using 801-799-DRUG.

The names of those involved in this case are not being released to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
