SLCPD Gang Detectives Arrest 4 People Connected to Westpointe Community ShootingSALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit have safely arrested and booked four people in connection to a shooting that occurred on May 25, 2025, in the city’s Westpointe community. The arrests follow an extensive investigation by SLCPD detectives and partner agencies. The four arrested are: · Bryan Jimenez Benitez, 22 · Gerardo Bejar Reynoso, 22 · Jose Eduardo Romero Bojorquez, 22 · Bryan Olvera Alvarez, 18 According to court documents, this investigation stems from an incident that resulted in more than 20 rounds being fired in a densely populated residential area, striking multiple vehicles and endangering bystanders. According to court documents, the shooting occurred after the suspects and others gathered at a home near 1800 West Shannon Circle following reports of a violent assault. When rival gang associates arrived in two separate vehicles, several people ran toward them. As the vehicles drove off, multiple rounds were fired, according to court documents. No injuries were reported. Detectives have executed multiple court-authorized residential search warrants as part of this ongoing investigation. Detectives believe the shooting was motivated by an ongoing conflict between rival gangs. The SLCPD has received credible information suggesting continued threats between those involved, and additional investigative steps are ongoing to prevent further violence. Detectives booked three of the men into booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on Friday June 13, 2025, multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm, and riot with a dangerous weapon. On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, detectives booked the fourth person – Bryan Olvera Alvarez – into the Salt Lake County Metro jail on 29 counts that include 26 counts of felony discharge of a firearm, one count of riot, one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and one count of being in unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, no further information related to the evidence or statements from those arrested will be released at this time. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit plays a key role in preventing gang-related crime and violence.
