SLCPD Seeks Tips in 1995 Murder of Rosie Tapia

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking for tips to help solve the 1995 murder of Rosie Tapia.

Detectives are looking to identify and speak with two teenage Hispanic boys who were visiting babysitters at the Tapia apartment on the night of August 12, 1995.

The boys were said to be 16 to 20 years old, with slender to medium builds. It is possible both boys were associated with the 21st Street gang.

The boys were in the apartment without the knowledge or permission of Rosie Tapia’s parents; they were seen by a witness drinking beer with the babysitters.

Detectives believe these boys could have vital information about the kidnapping and murder of Rosie Tapia.

The people at the apartment that night would now be 40 to 50 years old.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 801-799-3000 or submit an anonymous tip using the CityProtect App and reference case number 95-119190.
