SLCPD Detectives Arrest Second Man for Obstruction Related to Homicide InvestigationSALT LAKE CITY —Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad arrested 22-year-old Ezekiel Tai who is accused of obstructing a homicide investigation in Rose Park. This investigation started on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, when officers were dispatched to a shooting at 660 North Redwood Road. Officers and Salt Lake City Fire Department personnel arrived and found 8 people had been shot in the parking lot of a church, 2 of those individuals died on scene. During the investigation detectives learned a black colored SUV was seen leaving the church parking lot shortly after the shooting. A few minutes later a black GMC Yukon XL showed up at University Medical Center and dropped off two people who had been shot. Surveillance video showed two men helping the wounded individuals out of the Yukon. The men then got back into the Yukon and drove away. Detectives identified the Yukon and found it at an address in West Jordan. Tai was at the residence when detectives arrived to serve a search warrant on the house and the Yukon. Detectives determined Tai closely matched the description of the man seen driving the Yukon the night of the shooting. Detectives learned Tai was seen cleaning the inside of the Yukon in the garage of the West Jordan address after the shooting. When detectives examined the Yukon, they found the license plates had been removed and the OnStar GPS locater had been ripped out. Both the license plates and the OnStar device were found in the garage where Tai was seen cleaning the SUV. Detectives booked Tai into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charge of felony obstruction of justice. This is the second arrest made in this investigation. Detectives are actively investigating this case but have been hindered by a lack of cooperation from multiple people.
