SLCPD Identifies Stabbing Victim, Tips from our Community SoughtSALT LAKE CITY — The 34-year-old man who died after being stabbed at the Palmer Court apartments is identified as Charles Alires. The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to confirm the official cause of death. This investigation started at 3:43 p.m. on Thursday February 2, 2023, when SLC911 received information about a stabbing at the Palmer Court apartments, located at 999 South Main Street. Officers arrived on scene and found Alires in critical condition. Officers performed medical aid and requested further assistance from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance. Alires died on scene. Patrol officers, members of the SLCPD’s Central, Liberty and Pioneer Bike Squads, and the SLCPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) searched the area looking for suspects, witnesses, and evidence. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the stabbing. At this point, there is no information to indicate the stabbing was random. Currently, there is no available suspect description. Members of the SLCPD’s Homicide Squad and Crime Lab responded and conducted an extensive on-scene investigation, which included identifying, processing, and collecting evidence.
