SLCPD SWAT Team Concludes Search, No Arrests MadeSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department’s SWAT Team has finished its extensive search of the Main Street Motel. Despite the almost eight-hour search, no arrests have been made. There is no known threat to the community. The identity of the two suspects is known to law enforcement. Detectives will review the case and work to conduct additional follow-up, including working to locate the two suspects involved in this case. This investigation started at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, when patrol officers saw a stolen motorcycle abandoned at the Main Street Motel, located near 1500 South Main Street. While officers were investigating the stolen motorcycle, they reviewed surveillance video showing the suspect going inside a room at the Main Street Motel. Officers secured the area and began efforts to communicate with the suspect inside the motel room. During the investigation, officers learned the man had access to a knife and that there was a second person inside the motel room. Officers believe the man did in fact barricade himself in the room. The second person inside the room has an active felony warrant for her arrest. She also refused to exit. The on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of SLCPD SWAT and crisis negotiators. These highly trained teams provide patrol officers with additional resources. At approximately 6:45 p.m. on October 3, 2023, SWAT officers used a breaching device to further their efforts of safely resolving the incident. When SLCPD SWAT officers approached the room, they discovered the suspects had cut a hole inside the motel room’s ceiling and accessed the attic. Officers believe the suspects likely escaped the motel room somehow. The location of the two suspects is unknown. Anyone with information on their whereabouts should call 801-799-3000. SWAT officers meticulously searched the attic and crawl spaces of the motel but did not locate either suspect. During the incident, officers closed Main Street from Bryan Avenue to Kensington Avenue. All street closures are expected to be lifted by 1 a.m. on October 4, 2023. Several photos from the scene are being released. These photos may be used with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
