SLCPD Officers Arrest 8 People for DUISALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) are reminding community members about the importance of road safety after arresting eight people for driving under the influence. From 7 a.m. on Friday, December 20, through 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, officers with the SLCPD arrested eight people for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUI). Of the eight arrests, seven drivers were impaired by alcohol, while one driver was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine. With increased holiday travel, the SLCPD is reminding drivers to never drive while impaired. The easiest way to stay safe is to avoid driving after consuming any amount of alcohol. Community members are urged to arrange for a ride from a sober driver or use a rideshare service, which is often relatively inexpensive and significantly cheaper than the financial and legal consequences of a DUI arrest. Two of the alleged DUI cases highlight the dangers of impaired driving: · In one case, an alleged impaired driver nearly crashed into an SLCPD SUV while driving the wrong way on State Street near Kensington Avenue. · In another, a driver caused a crash that damaged two other cars. Historically, DUI cases increase during the holiday season. To combat this trend, the SLCPD’s Motor Squad will increase their efforts for the remainder of the holiday season, actively looking for impaired drivers to help ensure road safety. Keeping our roads safe is a top priority for the SLCPD. The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change. ### |
