SLCPD Investigating Aggravated Assault, One Man Critically Injured

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating an aggravated assault in the Ballpark neighborhood.

This investigation started at 8:34 p.m. on Thursday January 16, 2025, when Salt Lake City 9-1-1 received information about an assault that just occurred at 1470 South State Street.

Officers arrived and found a man with a critical injury to his stomach.

Officers began life-saving efforts. Paramedics took the man to the hospital in critical condition.
Officers on scene located and detained the suspect. They also secured a potential weapon as evidence pursuant to their investigation.

The circumstances of the alleged assault remain under investigation. Detectives responded to review evidence and further the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident.

The suspect is identified as 24-year-old Nathaniel David Ferguson. Officers booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
