SLCPD Releases Public Safety Statement for January 20, 2025
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is working with federal, state, county, and other local officials to coordinate appropriate resources to help facilitate safety and operational continuity for Monday, January 20, 2025.
The SLCPD is prepared to have a proactive, careful, and vigilant approach for several scheduled events related to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Presidential Inauguration.
People engaging in violence or property destruction will be investigated, subject to arrest, and criminal charges will be referred to prosecutors.
There are no specific or known threats related to the events scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City.
The SLCPD is preparing and coordinating with multiple agencies at all levels to help enhance public safety during this period.
Leading up to January 20, the SLCPD has taken proactive steps to increase training and operational readiness. The SLCPD has modified its staffing position for January 20, 2025, and is prepared to respond to any level of crisis to restore stability and safety.
Community members are urged to report anything suspicious by immediately calling 9-1-1.
The SLCPD will continue to receive real-time information from local, regional, and national law enforcement that will help guide the department in responding to unfolding incidents.
The SLCPD supports and prioritizes First Amendment activities. However, criminal activity will not be tolerated.
