SLCPD Investigating Hit-and-Run Crash in Ballpark Neighborhood, Community Tips Requested

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is asking for community tips as officers investigate a hit-and-run crash in the Ballpark neighborhood that injured two people on a motorcycle.

This investigation started at 6:27 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, when a Salt Lake City police officer, conducting proactive patrols in the Ballpark neighborhood drove up on a crash almost moments after it occurred at Cleveland Avenue and Main Street.

The officer exited his patrol car and found two people on the ground with injuries.

Additional officers responded and officers began life-saving measures, including applying a tourniquet to a 53-year-old man.

Paramedics with Gold Cross Ambulance and Salt Lake City Fire took the man and an 18-year-old woman to the hospital, both with serious injuries.

Witnesses told officers the other driver involved left the scene south on Main Street and then turned west on Andrew Avenue.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the suspect car was headed north on Main Street and pulled over near Cleveland Avenue to do a U-turn.

The 53-year-old man and his 18-year-old passenger were both north on Main Street on a motorcycle when the suspect driver turned into them.

The suspect driver did not stop.

Officers began searching the area looking for video of the suspect car.

The suspect car is described as a gray or light-colored Ford compact car with significant frontend damage.

The car will likely require repairs, and anyone with information about a car matching this description, or a car being brought in for repairs is encouraged to call 801-799-3000.

It is illegal for anyone to conceal or tamper with evidence.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
