SLCPD Special Investigations Unit Seizes Concentrated Form of THC Valued at Approximately $1.5 Million

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD)’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) recently executed a search warrant, resulting in the seizure of about 80-pounds of concentrated THC with an approximated street value of $1.5 million.

The search warrant was conducted as part of an on-going law enforcement investigation.

In addition to the 80-pounds of concentrated THC, detectives seized about two pounds of raw marijuana, and about 200 THC cartridges.

Specific details about the case cannot be released.

Detectives executed the search warrant in Davis County with the support of the Salt Lake City Police Department SWAT Team.

Detectives will work with prosecutors to determine the relevant charges, which may include child endangerment and obstruction of justice charges.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is dedicated to disrupting drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession and distribution in Salt Lake City and beyond.

The specialized team of detectives works closely with patrol officers, other SLCPD investigative squads, and regional law enforcement partners to identify and target individuals and organizations causing the most harm to our community.

The SIU collaborates with state and federal prosecutors to leverage the full scope of the criminal justice system in holding offenders accountable.

Through intelligence-driven investigations and proactive enforcement, the SIU is committed to dismantling drug trafficking organizations, reducing violent crime, and enhancing public safety in Utah’s capital city.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.
