SLCPD Officers Recover Suspected Drugs and Cash at Cottonwood Park, 1 Man ArrestedSALT LAKE CITY — As part of an ongoing effort to address illegal drug activity along the Jordan River Trail, officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s (SLCPD) Pioneer Patrol Division safely arrested a 35-year-old man at Cottonwood Park on drug-related charges. This investigation started around 1:14 a.m. on February 4, 2025, when an officer tried stopping a man accused of violating the park’s curfew. The man is accused of riding off, but the officer safely caught up to him and stopped the suspect. During the investigation, the officer found more than 50 pills suspected of containing fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, and other drug paraphernalia and cash. Officers developed probable cause to charge 35-year-old Alexander Hall with possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, based on the quantity and packaging of the suspected drugs. Officers booked Hall into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of being in illegal possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, fail to stop at the command of an officer and warrants. The Salt Lake City Police Department is currently conducting enhanced patrol along the Jordan River Trail to address illegal activity, including drug trafficking. Media interested in conducting a ride-along should contact the SLCPD Public Relations Unit. Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos. The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change. ### |
