SLCPD Investigating Shooting that Left One Dead, Two in Custody

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. Two people involved in the shooting have been taken into custody in Wyoming.

This investigation began at 6:37 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, when SLC911 received a call of a shooting that just occurred near 600 South and 300 West.

Officers learned the shooting had occurred inside a hotel room at 625 South 300 West. Officers entered the room and found a man dead inside.

Early in their investigation, detectives identified a suspect vehicle.

Detectives learned the suspect vehicle was possibly in western Wyoming. The car was located and stopped by deputies with the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. Two people in the car were taken into custody.

Homicide detectives will travel to Wyoming to continue their investigation and begin the extradition process.

The identity of the victim is not being released until family notifications are complete.
