June 23, 2015At 11:59 p.m. on June 20, 2015, a Salt Lake City Police officer was in the area of 210 S. Rio Grande St. when he heard a woman scream and witnessed a man threatening her with a knife. The officer gave commands for the man to drop the knife. The man lunged at the officer and was shot.
The 29-year-old man from the shelter area was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The female was not injured. The officer was unharmed and has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. As per new protocol, UCA 76-2-408 Investigation Protocols For Peace Officer Use of Force, the investigation has been handed over to the Unified Police Department.
