SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Law Enforcement Memorial will present the “Explorer Memorial Guardians” pin to 14 new Salt lake City Police Department Explorer’s. The pins will be presented by the children of the fallen to the next generation of law enforcement officers during the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial “Ride for the Fallen”.
The Salt Lake City Police Explorer Post #2471 will be pinned during a ceremony on the west lawn of the Utah State Capitol Sunday afternoon at 11:30 a.m.
The ULEM board of directors created the unique pin for the Police Explorers who have watched over its Fallen Officers memorial since November 2013. As “Guardians of the Fallen,” the all-volunteer group of young men and women, ages 14-20, clean and watch over the memorial every week.
The community is invited to observe this event as the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Ride for the Fallen Celebrates its 10th Year. The national anthem will be sung by Thurl Bailey, who is also participating in the ride. Last year more than 2,000 motorcycles made the ride. The number is expected to grow this year due to the national increase in police officers killed in the line of duty. The Utah Law Enforcement Memorial represents the sacrifice of all officers who have died in the line-of-duty.
