Salt Lake City, UT—A joint operation by Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County in the downtown area is again underway, as law enforcement and behavioral health treatment provider’s work on improving public safety and public health.

“I would ask the news media to avoid the area, as our officers are attempting to arrest criminal suspects as well as ensure that vulnerable people receive access to drug and alcohol and mental health treatment,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski. “We will provide a full media briefing on Tuesday morning, at 9 a.m., at the Salt Lake Public Safety Building, where questions about this phase of the operation will be addressed.”

Police officers from both the Salt Lake City force and the Unified Police Department are working together, as they did last week. Assessments and referrals are being done by licensed medical providers.

A news media briefing is scheduled for today at 9 a.m. to answer questions and provide more details about the comprehensive public safety operation.
