SALT LAKE CITY — Sgt. Jackson was commuting to work in Saratoga Springs on June 30, 2016 when he came upon a significant traffic accident involving a corrections officer who had been on the way home from work and was lying on the roadside, pinned under the motorcycle he had been operating, and suffering from a nearly severed leg. Sgt. Jackson positioned his vehicle to further protect the scene, retrieved a tourniquet and applied it to the injured officer’s leg. He prioritized his way through the incident, and with the help of a Good Samaritan passerby, removed the motorcycle from atop the officer to get him away from the leaking fuel. Sgt. Jackson’s ability to remain calm, exhibit a crisis management skill set and render vital first aid saved the life of the fellow officer.
