SALT LAKE CITY — Yesterday, at approximately 10:20 p.m. officers were out with a pedestrian at 1050 South State Street. Officers learned the suspect had a felony warrant and attempted to take him into custody, at which point the suspect produced a weapon. At some point the suspect was shot by Police. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect. The suspect was transported to a hospital where he was eventually declared deceased. All officers had body cameras and had them activated at the time. As per Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) protocol, the Unified Police Department will be conducting the investigation.

The department will be available for comment this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Building.
