SLCPD Lieutenant Graduates from FBI National Academy  

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown announced Lieutenant Jenn Diederich graduated from the 285^th session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to attend the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, Session 285,” said Lt. Diederich. “The professional experience was incredibly valuable for my career and what I will bring back to the Salt Lake City Police Department. The personal experience was priceless because I now have 246 new law enforcement brothers and sisters throughout the world to network with and further improve on the noble tradition of law enforcement. I thank Chief Mike Brown and Salt Lake City for the opportunity to fulfill my dream.”

Graduation for the 285^th session took place in Quantico, Virginia on March 16, 2023. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 285^th session consisted of 247 law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, four military organizations, and five federal civilian organizations.

Lt. Diederich began her career with Salt Lake Police Department in 2000.  Her experience includes serving as a narcotics detective, working on the SLCPD’s Bike Squad, a member of the department’s Community Intelligence Unit, a patrol officer, and a lead event officer for various functions. Prior to her promotion to lieutenant, Lt. Diederich served as a sergeant in the SLCPD’s Training Unit, Patrol Division, Property Crimes Unit, and Bike Squad. Once promoted to lieutenant, Lt. Diederich held roles to include watch commander, events and Motor Squad commander, Public Order Unit commander, Park Bike squad commander, secondary employment leader, and phlebotomy commander.

Information about FBI National Academy

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered.  A total of 54,154 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
