SLCPD Investigating Shooting, 1 Person Hurt, Tips RequestedSALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a shooting that resulted in a 16-year-old being shot in the ankle. This investigation started at 10:39 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, when SLC911 received calls about a shooting in a parking lot near 3292 South Richmond Street. When officers arrived, they found several parked cars with bullet holes and multiple shell casings on the ground. Officers determined two cars pulled into the parking lot when at least one person, in one of the cars, started shooting at a truck with two people standing nearby. At least one person standing near the parked truck returned fire. Officers also found a bullet hole that pierced the front window of a business. While officers investigated the shooting, they learned someone dropped off a 16-year-old at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle. The 16-year-old is believed to be one of the shooters. His injuries are non-life threatening. No one else, at this time, is known to have been wounded. Officers and detectives are still working through witness statements, reviewing video, and collecting evidence to determine the 16-year-old’s exact role in the shooting. The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit responded to the scene and is handling the investigation. Additionally, SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to process, document, and collect the evidence on scene. No charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 801-799-3000. Two photos from the scene are being released. Media may use these photos with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
