SLCPD Preparing for Days of ’47 Events, Olympic Watch PartySALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is preparing for Days of ’47 events and Celebrate 2034 Olympic party and is reminding community members about the upcoming road closures and delays. Beginning early Wednesday, July 24, 2024, anyone living, working, or visiting Salt Lake City should expect significant and potentially lengthy road closures as participants and spectators navigate the Deseret News Marathon, Days of ’47 Parade, and Celebrate 2034 Olympic party. Officers will be stationed around Washington Square, throughout the marathon and athletic courses and parade route to help ensure the safety for all of those involved. The Salt Lake City Police Department continues to work with the event organizers to lessen any impact on our community. To help ensure the safety of everyone, some segments of the racecourse and parade route require 100% closure. Some of these select street closures could be in place for several hours. All roadway users are encouraged to follow all posted signs and directions from officers along the racecourse and parade route. Racecourse maps are available for review on the Deseret News Marathon’s website. A map of the parade route, provided by the event organizer, is being released. The map can also be found on the Days of ’47 website. Community members should review the maps and prepare to avoid those areas or delay travel, if possible. Please use extreme caution when traveling through the area as there will be a significant increase in vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. The Salt Lake City Police Department reminds community members to find the nearest police officer or call 801-799-3000 to report any suspicious activity. For in-progress emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
