SLCPD Provides Update on Deadly East Central Neighborhood Crash

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are releasing the name of the woman killed on October 2, 2024 in the East Central neighborhood.

This investigation started at 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, when SLC911 received a call of a traffic crash near 743 South and 700 East.

The woman killed is identified as 46-year-old Lacee Kelly.

Paramedics arrived and confirmed Lacee died on the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the driver, a 57-year-old man, fell asleep and lost control of his car.

The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests have been made.

The Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

This crash marks the 10th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection, and computer-aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
