SLCPD Pioneer Patrol Officers Arrest Man Accused of Possessing Stolen Firearm

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department announced the arrest of a 40-year-old man who is accused of being in possession of a stolen firearm and stolen property.

This investigation started at 7:19 p.m. on Monday January 20, 2025 when SLC911 received information from a community member who reported stolen electronics belonging to them being tracked to 1391 South Utahna Circle.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Pioneer Patrol Division responded and found a car running.

While contacting the driver, officers saw electronics matching the description of the stolen items inside.

Officers detained the driver, later identified as 40-year-old Jerami Esquibel.

During the investigation officers confirmed Esquibel had a felony warrant and was in possession of a stolen handgun, methamphetamine, and cocaine.

Officers booked Esquibel into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges that include possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, drug possession with intent to distribute, theft of a firearm, theft, and operating a vehicle without a license.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The information contained in this news release is based on a preliminary review of the details available to the Salt Lake City Police Department. As the investigation progresses, information may change.

No photos are available for release.
